Awards will be announced each year for individual journalists and/or organizations in categories such as International Affairs; Human Rights; Corporate Crime; Local Politics; Racial and Minority Discrimination; Science, Medicine & Health; Military Affairs; Photo Journalism; Citizen Journalism; and Opinion & Analysis – although the categories often overlap – and there will not necessarily be an award every category in every year.
Some of the factors to be weighed may include: How significant was the work? How effectively was it presented? How difficult was it to get? What effect did it have? How much risk – personal or financial – was the journalist or news organization exposed to?
